Door County real estate sales increase in July!

According to the Wisconsin REALTORS Association (WRA), home sales in the State rose 17.3% in July and the median price increased 2.1%.  The stats compare July 2012 sales to July 2011 sales.  The WRA reports a total 6,023 home sales in Wisconsin during this past July compared to 5,133 in July of 2011.  The median price of the homes that sold was $143,000 in July 2012 and $140,000 in 2011.  (1).

In Door County, we saw a large increase in the median price for the July sales in 2012 compared to last July….$199,000 (July 2012) vs. $138,100 (July 2011) and the number of sales this July was up slightly, 29 compared to 27.  (2).

A Taste of Egg Harbor, the Egg Harbor Historical Society’s annual heritage picnic will be held in Harbor View Park. The picnic will have a taste of local food and beverage specialties. Walking and driving tours of historical sites will be available. There will be videos, photos and stories of Egg Harbor’s past. Music will be provided. New Medicare Tax on Real Estate Begins 2013!

google map to real pro systemsBeginning in 2013, a new 3.8% tax will be imposed on investment income.  This tax affects “high-income earners”, defined as single households with adjusted gross incomes of over $200,000 and married households above $250,000.  Capital gains are treated as investment income.
 

This 3.8% tax will be required to be paid on 100% of the gain from the following:

  • The gain from the sale of second homes.
  • The gain from the sale of investment and commercial real estate.
  • The net rental income from investment properties.

The gain from the sale of a primary residence will be paid on the gain exceeding $250,000 for single households or $500,000 for married households.
